Built to Break is a zine that explores how things are both built and broken in our society. It was created using Natalie Lawhead’s Electric Zine Maker. Pertaining to a generative nature, it was made to be so through the use of handheld dice, hand-writen text arrays, and the tools within the zine maker. This project explores digital design concepts being both created in a digital environment and assembled using digits of hands. Oftentimes, when creating in digital environments the work is expected to take on an immaculately polished design aesthetic. The zine making software tool and the hand assembly allow for randomness in the construction. Being of a handmade nature inevitably means that the finished product contains quirks unique to that instance of creation that cannot be authentically replicated.
