Code of Corn

[Code of Corn] embarks on a comprehensive exploration of the evolution of computing from indigenous methods of data collection and resource management to contemporary urban planning. It critically examines the deep-seated connections between community management and an attuned coexistence with the land, both historically and in present contexts. Drawing inspiration from Robin Wall Kimmerer’s “Braiding Sweetgrass,” which harmonizes Indigenous wisdom with scientific knowledge, this work aims to bridge the gap between these two worlds through a detailed examination of computational practices utilized by indigenous groups. By highlighting the differences, similarities, and potential integrations between indigenous and Western data valuation and resource management strategies, the project seeks to present a balanced view that respects and utilizes the strengths of both approaches.
